Hilary Swank Eager to Tell The Story of Amelia Earhart
Plans on flying the friendly skies to prep for her role.

Hilary Swank Will Play Amelia Earhart Two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank will have her work cut out for her when she plays legendary female pilot Amelia Earhart in her next movie. Comparisons to the real-life Earhart may be even harder to face than dressing like a boy and bulking up for the boxing ring.

"There is an abundance of material to do research on with her," said Swank. "I'm actually going to start that research in January and I'm very much looking forward to it. She was certainly a pioneer of her time. She was a wonderful role model to women. She had such strength in a man's world and especially in that era. People said, 'Do you think that she used her publicity?' Of course she did. Flying is expensive, so it's great that there is all this media for me to do my research with. She used it well to benefit her dream. So I'm really looking forward to diving into that and learning how to fly. I'll certainly do all of that."

Philip Noyce is directing the film, which begins shooting in February. While Earhart may be the most well-known celebrity Swank has yet played, she does have experience with biographical stories.

"Any time that you play a character who was alive, you just don't have as much room to creating fictional parts of the person. You want to find as much as you can about the reality of the person and do justice to their story, so you do feel an avid responsibility. Whether they're famous or not, you still want to tell the story in a way that they would be proud of."

Swank sees Earhart as an important role model for women. "I think she was willing to do things that were deemed not for women, and did them just as well as men. I think that was a blessing and a curse. I think it was something that was difficult, it was a challenge, certainly -- but also really helped with all the other women at that time. She was a pioneer for women certainly too, not just for aviation, but for women."

And the movie will end with a fade to white -- because there's really no end. But, for weeks after this movies release the discovery and history channels will run reenactment programs of what could have happened. Did she get lost in the Bermuda Triangle? Was she eaten by cannibals?

her plane crashed into the ocean and no one ever found it. mystery solved. her actual body probly got eaten by something. likely a shark. but all those good parts won't be in it. hey, at least it's not 'the reaping' or 'the core.' how much crack WAS hillary smoking?

Hilary Swank is a fantastic actress and I think she's perfect for the part, she'll bring a depth and committment to it that will respect Earhart's amazing and inspiring achievements.
All the Discovery Channel Docos about Earhart have already been done so they'll just re-rerun them all I think.

This is more of a Hilary Swank kinda role. She really isn't a box office draw from what I can tell. She's got her niche and she needs to stick with it.

I just hope Amelia Earhart liked to be naked. All the time.

Hilary Swank would be *wonderful* in that role!

Hilary will do great with this movie. People that are arguing that we know the ending should remember a couple of things: Titanic, The Patriot, The Aviator, Rey and Walk the Line. We all knew the endings because this all happened in real life. So the interesting part of the film will be the leading up to the ending. That's what is fascinating with biopics. A fade to white would be a good ending but they should have an old news report at the end with the disappearance and the possible investigation and show how they did not or did determine what happened to her. That would be good. Also here's the funny thing...why are all of these movies being greenlit without a screenwriter? Their on strike. Hey, here's an idea, hire scabs. I'll write. it's been a dream of mine for many years to write a screenplay and watch it on the big screen.
