First Shots from Journey to the Center of the Earth 3-D

Are you interested in taking a look at the center of the Earth? In 3-D, even?

Well, we can't help you with the 3-D part -- you'll have to wait until July 11 for that. And actually, if you want to get technical about it, we aren't talking about actual photos of the actual center of the Earth. But they are stills from this summer's Journey to the Center of the Earth 3-D, and director Eric Brevig probably knows at least as much as any of us about what it looks like, so what's the difference, really?

If you've never read the Jules Verne novel (or seen any of the roughly six dozen other film adaptations), the official synopsis follows:

On a special trip to Iceland, a scientist (Brendan Fraser) and his nephew become trapped in a cave after a storm. They soon figure out the only path to safety is through the center of Earth.

We always knew there had to be a reason we didn't trust those tricky Icelandic caves. Click on the photos for the rest of the gallery!

I saw the trailer in Imax, it looks like a fun kids movie. it's good that they try to use 3d more, that could be the future of the cinema.

yeah I think that's really where things are going. once cameron's 'avatar' drops, i think the filmmaking game is going to look a lot different. director's will save money by shooting in digital instead of film and use that money on crazy fx. i was imagining it the other day as a sort of stage play. in a few years 2D will seem as passe as it already sounds.

Pretty much dahluzz, though it makes you wonder what will happen to the home theater market. People won't want to see some amazing 3D movie in lousy ol' 2D at home.

Beowulf is my example for that. It was great in 3D, and now I wouldn't want to see it again any other way (though I suppose the fact that it was a pretty crap movie to begin with doesn't help).

I did see the trailer for this in the theater (in 3D), and it does look pretty neat.

This looks like it could be fun. I don't have a 3D movie theatre near me though. Oh well. I'll look forward to this and Mummy 3. His character is probably very similar in both.
