The Day the Earth Stood Still Adds Jaden Smith
Will become youngest performer in history to act circles around Keanu.

His participation in a new Karate Kid is still only the stuff of rumors, but Jaden Smith has officially joined the cast of another remake.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Smith has signed on to star in Fox's Scott Derrickson-directed update on The Day the Earth Stood Still. From the article:

Smith will play the rebellious Jacob, the 8-year-old stepson of scientist Helen Benson (Jennifer Connelly) who first makes contact with the humanoid alien Klaatu (Keanu Reeves). Kathy Bates and Golden Globe winner Jon Hamm also star.

The new Earth's screenplay, written by David Scarpa, follows the "global upheaval" caused by Klaatu's arrival, particularly the experiences of Smith and Connelly, who "[come] to understand the ramifications of his being a self-described 'friend to the Earth.'"

The Day the Earth Stood Still, scheduled for a December 12 release, will be Smith's first screen appearance since his critically acclaimed performance in The Pursuit of Happyness.

Keanu Reeves as an alien ...... will probably work.

The Karate Kid rumors are still some of the worst ever. Please don't let them come to fruition.

Actually, Reeves will be just right for this, I think, since the character in the original was pretty much a bland pretty boy. And Connely is a good actress and Smith is certainly better than a lot of 8-year-olds I've seen acting. The big question, as always, is why a remake, although considering the state of affairs in the world today, it could actually be a pretty nice update.

Hopefully, Keanu will never take of his mask as Klaatu and his voice be replaced by Laurence Fishburne...ala Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer...

The Day The Earth Stood Still has long been one of my all time favorite movies and I HATE remakes ... Yet for some reason, I'm actually looking forward to this version ... Either I have great intuition or I'm on drugs ... Yeah, it must be the LSD.

I'm sure the anticipation of this movie will vastly outweigh the final appreciation of it.
Some things are better left alone.

I been wanting a remake of this movie for a long time...the original is one of my favorite Sci-fi pics.
I really want to see how they update Gort. With the new CGI they could make him awesome.
I hope they remember that those robots are the ultimate badass of the galaxy. And act as the police for whatever planet they leave them on and are supposed to be unstoppable.

i think reeves terrible acting is a kind of so bad it's good phenomena. his lack of talent actually has played well with most of his major roles imo. he was perfectly terrible in river's edge, and his robotic/emotionless tone was perfect for neo. so as an alien? yeah, it could work.
