Which do you find harder to believe: that a movie based on the "Asteroids" arcade game is in development, or that Universal won a four-studio bidding war to land the rights to the property? Back to Article

Sounds more promising than a film based on Monopoly. Asteroids could be a great sci-fi epic if the story is good. Nothing really to laugh about if you think about it, because its just a simple game with no story, as long as it revolves around Asteroids needing to be destroyed.

Heres an idea... Aliens attack Mrs, and completely destroy it, they are heading for Earth next, we send up ships to fend off Aliens AND heve to wipe out the Asteroid debris from Mars explosion. Or even set the whole thing in an Alien Galaxy. Simple idea, but why not? Asteroids wizzing past in 3D, I can see it.

I don't think it's a good idea at all. Why do they try to keep making movies directly based on video games? Has there been a good video game movie yet? The problem is that they don't focus on good storylines or even good characters, it's all about staying true to the video game. Sorry, but that doesn't work.

whitey: Some games actually DO have deep storylines and character development, but for some bizarre reason they never choose these games for film adaptations.

jacog: I know they do, but as a movie you can't just use the same plot and all that from a video game, but they try to take the plot and change it up just enough to justify it and screw it up every time.

As Judge Dredd was saying, the best thing this movie has going for it is that there were no real characters or story to the game. They can pretty much just make up any space movie they want and call it Asteroids as long as there was one major scene involving a fierce battle with the aliens in an asteroid field.
