O.K. now what the hell, how are they coming up w/ these ideas? Are they throwing darts at a board or something? Maybe they can use the View Master to find where all the creativity went.

Right after they finish filming, "COFFEE TABLE" or "UNIVERSAL REMOTE."

Wait, they already did the remote movie with Adam Sandler I think.

"NERF GUN WARRIOR" would be a good toy based film. When are we getting "BARBIE" for the girls, or a live action "CARE BEARS" film.

Tagline for the next toy-themed horror film: Everyone Loves a Slinky... TO DEATH!

Actually, I'm kinda partial to SuperSoaker3000, now that would make for a good movie. Or how about Strawberry Shortcake, not the cartoon, just the food. Let me see, what are some other random things lying around, ooh ooh ooh, I got it, Keyboard:The Revenge of the Tilda Key.

a movie about the View-Master? you mean those red binocular things that you look into to see photos and stills that no kid has played with in 20 years? and they want to make a movie out of THAT?!? why don't they go ahead and make a movie about the zoetrope while they're at it?

meanwhile there are good, original, and interesting scripts being tossed in trashcans.

Sounds like the announcement of the Asteroids adn View Mater movies is a hoax to me.

this is very very sad, hollywood has become increasingly shameless in the past several months, and things were already bad...
clearly very few people in hollywood value an imagination these days

i also saw an article for an asteroids movie (?????)

they are churning out nothing but crappy adaptations of anything they can, be it a video game or a toy or anything else or that matter, oh and we can't forget remakes, apparently of movies that aren't even that old (i heard they're doing a total recall remake...ugh)

So sad, as a matter of fact, that was worth repeating twice.

Anybody ever read "the Fountainhead" by Ayn Rand? Many critics pointed at the "bad guy" of the book Ellsworth Toohey was completely unrealistic- comparing his motivation like that of a supervillain from a comic book.

"Having no true genius, Toohey's mission is to destroy excellence and promote altruism as the ultimate social ideal. This is put forward in one of his most memorable quotes: "Don%u2019t set out to raze all shrines%u2014you%u2019ll frighten men. Enshrine mediocrity, and the shrines are razed."

This always rang a bell with me that this is how Hollywood operates. Except replace altruism with something like special effects and vapid, superficial lifestyles. Meanwhile, true revolutionary genius is hardly acknowledged- Transformers doing as well as it did is proof of this.

How can you even make a film about the View-Master?

And where's that Monopoly movie we were promised dammit!?!?

Anyone see Idiocracy starring Luke Wilson, Dax Shepperd and Maya Rudolph? That movie is looking increasingly more realistic as the days go by. Utterly terrifying.

This honestly has the potential to make a neat kids movie. They said they wanted to do something similar to Goonies, which was a great movie, so I would think this isn't going to be that stupid orange plastic view-master. Think old time pirate style made of brass and glass lenses. The lenses would be special of course; able to see secret clues on the map and the adventure route. Maybe even some 3D elements thrown in there and it'd be worth watching.

The basic idea of using an ancient pair of magical binoculars to find a lost treasure or whatever isn't a bad one for a kids movie. There's not much originality in kids movies anyway, what determines if one is good is if it uses those formulas well.

What disturbs me is that Hollywood seems to think that nothing can be successful unless it's attached to an established property. Why do you need to pay View Master to have a movie about magic goggles or treasure-hunting? Why do you need to pay for the name "Asteroids" if all you want is a film about blowing crap up in space? Those concepts have been done before and should still be great fun if made well. A crap movie can still bomb, even if it has a familiar name (Land of the Lost being a recent example).

As long as the American public keeps running out to see movies like Transformers 2 Hollywood will keep spewing out this type of thing.

Next summer, prepare to experience the film event that nothing has prepared you for.

Doing nothing is the only possible way to prepare for:

P A P E R W E I G H T
THE MOVIE

A Michael Bay Film

PRESS RELEASE: PAPERWEIGHT THE MOVIE

Blockbuster director of the "Transformers" films Michael Bay returns to the big screen with his latest opus, the $250,000,000 budgeted epic "Paperweight:The Movie"

Says Bay: "Well, we have this paperweight, see, and what the film does is explore the effects of a devastating mutant panda bear attack on the human relationships surrounding this paperweight. I don't want to give away too much here, but as people enter and exit the den where the paperweight is stationed and we begin to see that the paperweight never leaves the desktop, we'll see the underlying nature of the characters revealed as cars crash, cities explode and a fiery holocaust overwhelms them. We'll also be exploring the consequences of blastwaves shifting the paperweight out of place..will the piece of paper it's holding down flutter off the desktop? Will the paperweight manage to hold its' position? The underlying subtext is one of knowing your place and staying there in the middle of non-stop carnage. Visually, the film will be unlike anything I've ever done. I don't mean to boast, but we've created a really cool advanced visual effect that perfectly captures the image of the paperweight as it keeps a grocery list in place- audiences will believe they are actually watching a paperweight sitting on top of a leaf of paper!!"

"Paperweight:The Movie" bows December 31st, 2012
