BLADE RUNNER is like Monopoly in the sense that The Japanese Monopolized the entire futuristic city of Los Angeles.

WALL STREET by Oliver Stone is a little "Monopoly-istic" in a way.

The plot and the visual design for Monopoly can be quite interesting.

but MONOPOLY the title is so-associated with the board-game; it overshadows the movie with an air of "another silly, Jim Carey movie"

LOL. You know I was just about to say, "Where's De4 when we need him to kick dirt on this totally stupid idea?" And here you are, beating me to the punch.

Really though, when they spend nearly the entire article apologizing for an otherwise respected director's involvement, you know something's up.

Since the bodysnatchers are taking over, I'm just waiting for more bizarre announcements: COMING SOON!.. "Hungry Hungry Hippos" by none other than Steven Spielberg! /Didn't you hear? Spike Lee's in talks to direct "Apples to Apples"/ THIS JUST IN!! M. Night abandons Airbender sequels to do (gasp) 'The Ladybug Game"/ AND JUST YOU WAIT, rumor has it that Peter Jackson is planning a big epic sci fi trilogy chronicling the life and times of the mighty Zhu Zhu Hamster.

F.cking Hollywood, man!

LOL. Mad? Man, I am glad you came on here to diss the movie! It's an opportunity for us to agree.

As far as Avatar goes, I'm just looking forward to throwing you the "I told you so" card. ;-)

I'd bet my Free Parking that if I pass Go to take a Chance on this film, my Park Place will be as disappointing as my Oriental noodles. If I may take a Short Line approach, I'd rather take the Boardwalk directly to Jail than roam the Marvin Gardens of this film. I'd even bet my 3 houses and hotel against this movie if I didn't have to worry about Income Tax. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to take my top hat to the shower for my B & O Railroad so I can take a date to Vermont and hopefully check out her Community Chest. She did win 2nd place in a beauty contest after all. Hopefully my Water Works.

Man I'm bored...

Ridley Scott has went from visionary to mediocre to sucker of Satan's ... well, if you know Bill Hicks, you know the rest of that one.

I heard that they are coming out with a "Battleship" movie as well. Some studio also brought the rights to "Hot Wheels". Yes... Hot Wheels!!! Imagine the amazing plotline to toy cars...

@Losingsleep, I'm sure it'll closely resemble the remake of Gone in 60 Seconds, mixed with a bit of The Fast and Furious.

What a complete joke! Hollywood needs to get its collective head out of its rear end. What's next? Connect 4: The Movie? While were at it we can make a franchise out of the game, checkers. First in the series would be Checkers. 2nd would be the sequel, Checkers 2: King Me, and then you could go over seas with the third installment. Checkers 3: Chinese Checkers!

I agree with your posts guys. Basing a multi-million dollar movie off a board game is an insanely bad idea. This whole Hollywood fad of having "branded" entertainment has gone too far. Also, the pitch that the producer has in this article about some lovable loser ending up in a "Alice in Wonderland"-like Monopoly world just sounds appalling. I would laugh if it wasn't so painful.

That being said, I'll be the first to admit that I thought Pirates of the Caribbean was an awful idea as well. We all know how much money that made and it was based on an amusement park ride! But I really doubt "Monopoly" the movie has this type of appeal.

Boy, this stupid idea of a movie has gotten me riled up this morning.

Has everyone forgotten the glory that was Clue? Movie's shouldn't be limited by their source material. That said, this will probably still suck.

I actually just got a really good idea I think. Anyone remember Grape Escape, the game where you make Play-Doh grapes as board pieces and certain spaces that you land on have traps that can squash, slice, and generally f**k up your grape-man? They could use stop-motion/claymation like a Wallace and Gromit or Fantastic Mr. Fox and design all kinds of crazy traps for the grapes. It would be like a claymation 'Saw' featuring the California Raisins, a bit more kid friendly though.

BigBrother, I see what you're saying, but Clue had actual 'people' involved as characters. Monopoly on the other hand, not so much...
