THE COLOR OF FREEDOM - A not so memorable snippet of South African life. Despite the fact that FREEDOM was based on the true story of NELSON MANDELA's white guard GREGORY for almost 20 years, the film focused mostly on action and very little on character development. The acting by JOSEPH FIENNES, as the guard, is good as usual, but DAVID HAYSBERT as MANDELA was very flat and one note. The biggest problem was the story line - a 5 minute script stretched into an hour and 45 minute movie. The overall production was first rate, but the filmmakers didn't have enough material to work with - the film is worth watching you might need a little shock treatment to stay awake.
