This movie failed on so many levels for me. With Depp and Bale as the leads, I expected nothing but simply amazing out of this film. However, it was anything but.

(-1) My biggest gripe is the lack of any connection felt to the characters of this film. When the movie ended I just couldn't care one way or another what happened.

(-1) No great sense of tragedy. This is mostly in part due to my first point. Without connection, I could not find myself feeling sorry or bad for any of the people met along the way.

(-1) The audio was awful at times. I thought maybe it was just my theater but apparently it seems that that wasn't the case.

(-1) Handheld camera footage was way too much for my eyes to take at times. There were too many moments where I had issues keeping up with the shaking and bouncing.

(-1) The post-production video effects were inconsistent from one scene to the next. For example, the horse race felt like a lot of attention was made to give the film a historic look, but then was never used again.
