At a first glance it seems confusing and convoluted. However, the film is structured through flashes of memory, non-linear but cleverly intertwined. The final twist is not mere surprise but a choice that stays true to the motifs and symbols which appear all throughout the film. The novel is absolutely lyrical and haunting, and the film is one of the few examples where an adaption can still stand strong to those who knew the pages first. Watch this film closely, it is artistic rather than entertaining. This is a film for those who are well acquainted with the poignancy of confronting truth.
