I joked about this title. I picture Optimus and Sam Witwicky laughing at a tripped Megatron (courtesy of Starscream) with Megatron raising a shaking fist to the sky... More

Gandalf is the greatest Wizard of all time. He decapitated the King of Goblins with Glamdring, he stood up to the Witch King at the Gates of Minis Tirith, and he fellowshipped with the Greatest King of all time. Also he was played by one of the greatest actors of all time, Ian McKellen. Gandalf is a Wizard. This movie no matter how Quirky off collar indie coming of Age romance it pretends to be is just not that Wizard.

Juno is a quirky young teenage girl who can relate to any viewer. He wardrobe alone Screams Goth Indie popular social witty Kid. She wears a Skirt and Jeans, carries a pipe but doesn’t smoke, plays a Guitar but not anything you’ve ever heard of, and the list of relatable to all people goes on and on. Knocked up by her best friend Bleeker played by Michel Cera. Bleeker and Michael Cera being the exact same person, how Quirky. Hey it’s a want to be Indie film so that’s the point right!?

The film pretends to tackle serious issues but in general ignores every single serious issue with a quirky smart ass comment. Honestly, this does work a lot of the time in the film but at other times it just becomes far too much. The film tries so hard to please so many people and is over flowing with so much happy fun time sugar that I’m surprised people who suffer of diabetes are not blaming this very film for it. Scene in example, our Knight in shining Armor Bleeker finishes an important Race with over head announcement stating he just beat the school record in the race with follow up narration by Juno stating she never told him about what happened that day but some how he knew! Awe there quirky love is so strong that he just knew. So which is it, caring sensitive awkward nerd boyfriend or super track star that can have a school record in a race. No offense to that quirky scene but Track stars who excel dedicate there lives to excelling at track, not knocking up girls and blowing them off. You want a quirky relationship that touches the hearts of your friends? Knock a girl up, then blow her off. Juno later apologizes for this happening. Yes our independent witty gal apologizes for Bleeker blowing her off. Made me sick scene of the year.

This film is not with out its shining moments. One scene in particular shines through by the outstanding performance of Ellen Page. These scenes all come across ironically when the character is alone. The quirkiness is gone and Ellen Page as the character of Juno can truly express This Fear, loneliness, and heart ache one must experience not just as a preggers teen but a teen girl in general. Brilliantly acted and dare I say Brilliantly Directed. I own this DVD for these scenes alone.

I know what you’re saying, he’s bashed the movie this whole review and is commending Ellen page? What kind of mood swing is this? Well the film is about teen pregnancy which seemed to lack the dreadful mood swings so in honor of this film and it’s accomplishments (awards and praise) I’m demonstrating a mood swing my self and giving it the 70%. Terrible Story, Dreadful plot lines, Bloated and overrated, but a must see performance by Ellen Page. Even if you see it once you will remember and appreciate it 9 months later, and then some.
